Feet stay free to push, glide and regain stability while the rider learns steering and braking.
$749.00
The Kidvelo Rookie 24 Convertible Balance Bike gives older children, teens and special need riders a confidence-first way to learn—master balance at their own pace, then install the included pedal kit when they’re ready. In pedal mode, the 2-speed automatic hub changes gears for them, making learning to ride easier while they progress to independent cycling on the same familiar bike.
For a confident start, the rider should be able to place both feet flat on the ground while seated in balance-bike mode.

The Rookie 24 helps older and taller beginners learn at their own pace on one familiar bike. Start in balance mode to build control, then install the included Easy-Ride Pedal Kit when they are ready. At 8.7 kg in balance mode, it stays manageable while young riders develop confidence.
Build the hardest riding skill before adding pedals.
The Easy-Ride Pedal Kit is ready for the next milestone.
Child-sized controls and stable geometry feel natural.
Keep a familiar frame, then enjoy two-speed automatic gearing with no manual shifter.

A 6061 aluminium frame, proper child-friendly brakes, 24-inch pneumatic tyres and adjustable fit work together to make learning comfortable, controlled and confidence-inspiring.
Strong, corrosion-resistant construction with a durable painted finish.
Short-reach levers help smaller hands learn proper braking.
24-inch tyres add grip, cushioning and stability.
Stable proportions support balance, steering and pedalling.
Comfort grips and a padded saddle suit developing riders.
The alloy clamp makes growing-room changes quick and simple.
Measure your child’s inner leg rather than relying on age alone. The Rookie 24 is designed for riders with an inseam between 62–84 cm, with the current saddle height range to confirm.

Both feet should reach the ground comfortably in balance mode.
A small bend helps children push, glide and stop confidently.
The bars and brake levers should be easy to reach without stretching.
Keep useful saddle adjustment above the starting position.
Send us your child’s age and inner leg measurement and we can help confirm the best Kidvelo size.

At 8.7 kg in balance mode and 10.6 kg in pedal mode, the Rookie 24 keeps both learning stages manageable. Less bike weight helps children steer, recover and stop with greater control.
Young riders have less weight to manage as they glide.
Starting, steering and recovering feel more natural.
The aluminium build is simpler to lift into the car or carry home.
The Rookie 24 separates balance from pedalling so children can focus on one skill at a time. They first develop balance, steering, braking and control, then add the included pedal kit without changing bikes.

Learn how the bike feels with both feet securely on the ground.
Take longer strides and lift the feet to discover balance.
Build reliable control before introducing the pedal kit.
Keep the familiar fit and handling while learning to pedal.
No training-wheel phase and no unfamiliar replacement bike — just a natural next step on the Rookie 24 they already know.
Begin with the drivetrain removed for a clean balance-bike setup. When gliding, steering and braking are second nature, install the included Easy-Ride Pedal Kit and keep the same familiar bike.

Feet stay free to push, glide and regain stability while the rider learns steering and braking.

The same fit, brakes and handling reduce the number of new skills the rider must process at once.
Start in first gear. At approximately 11 km/h, the Rookie 24 automatically shifts into second. No manual shifter is required, leaving the rider free to focus on pedalling, steering and braking.
Set off and build speed at a comfortable pace.
Changes to second at approximately 11 km/h.
One less control to learn while developing riding confidence.
Balance, pedal and progress on the same Rookie 24.

After two months in balance mode, her cautious nine-year-old asked for pedals, rode away and now loves cycling.

The Largest Balance Bike For Older and Taller Kids
My kids love this larger Balance to Pedal Bike by Kidvelo bikes. My son is 12 and my daughter is 10. They both fit the bike well and enjoy the ease of cruising around on the Rookie 24. The included easy ride pedal kit is a breeze to switch out for the footrest. They love the kickstand too. But their favourite feature is the auto shift gears which automatically shifts gears like magic at 11km/hr. I like this feature as it keeps them focused on steering without the complications of having to manually shift gears. The guys at Kidvelo have really custom built a balance to pedal bike to make learning to ride so much easier than what is out their currently. Highly recommended.

Perfect for Older Learners
“My 9-year-old had never mastered riding a bike, but the Rookie 24 was a game-changer. Starting in balance mode gave him confidence, and within a week he was pedalling on his own. The bigger size is perfect for older kids and it doesn’t feel bulky at all.
Sam F. –
Fantastic Design
“The 24-inch Rookie is brilliant — it’s so hard to find a quality balance bike for older kids. My daughter loves the look and feel of it, and the pedals were simple to add on. She skipped training wheels completely and now rides everywhere.”
Erol S. –
Grandpa’s Recommendation
“My grandson was struggling to learn on a regular bike, so I got him the Rookie 24. Best decision ever. The step-through frame and balance mode made learning stress-free, and he was pedalling confidently within days. It’s strong, stable, and looks amazing.”
Misty K. –
Confidence Booster for Late Starter
“Our 10-year-old had lost interest in riding because she couldn’t get the hang of balancing. The Rookie 24 changed that — she started coasting the first day and asked for the pedals by the weekend. Seeing her finally ride on her own was priceless.”
Addin M. –
Quality Build for Bigger Kids
“This bike feels incredibly well built. The frame is lightweight but strong, and the larger wheels roll so smoothly. My son is tall for his age, so the Rookie 24 was perfect. He’s riding with confidence and loves how cool it looks.”
Tracey L. –
Perfect Transition Bike
“We had the Rookie 14 for our younger child, so we got the Rookie 24 for our older daughter. Same great design, just bigger. The add-on pedals are a genius idea — she went from gliding to pedalling in the same weekend.”
Lisa B. –
Worth Every Dollar
“The Rookie 24 was a bit more expensive than the small bikes in stores, but it’s worth every dollar. It’s built to last, grows with your child, and makes learning to ride so easy. Plus, Kidvelo’s customer service was fantastic when I had sizing questions. Thank you Nicole for your wonderful support to put me at ease in selecting the right bike for my child’s special needs.”
Sarah S. –
Ideal for Special Needs
“My 8-year-old son has additional needs and struggled with regular bikes. The Rookie 24 allowed him to focus on balancing first, then add pedals when he was ready. The smile on his face when he rode by himself was unforgettable.”
Roger C. –
Large Size, Light Weight
“I was worried a 24-inch bike might be too heavy for my daughter, but the Rookie 24 is incredibly light. She can easily move it around on her own. The pedals attach securely and the bike handles beautifully.”
Julie M. –
Kidvelo Excellence
“This is our third Kidvelo bike — we’ve had the 12 and 18 for our younger kids, and now the Rookie 24 for our oldest. Every single one has been amazing quality. The 24-inch version is perfect for older learners and gives them total confidence to ride.”

Finally, a Bike that Cracked the Code for Our Older Child!
We had almost given up hope of our 8-year-old learning to ride. He was too big for regular balance bikes and too anxious for the “push and run” method on a normal pedal bike. The Rookie 24 was an absolute game-changer. Starting in balance mode on a bike that actually fit him gave him the confidence he desperately needed. The transition to pedals was smooth because he already felt in control. And the 2-speed auto gears? Sheer brilliance! He can now tackle the small hill on our street without even thinking about it. This bike is the best investment we’ve made in his confidence and our family’s outdoor life.

This Bike is an Engineering Masterpiece for Kids.
As someone who loves a bit of clever tech, this bike is seriously impressive. The 2-in-1 convertible design is smart enough, but the 2-speed auto-shifting internal hub is next level. There are no confusing shifters for our daughter to worry about; the bike just smoothly shifts to an easier gear when she starts to pedal harder up an incline. It’s completely seamless. This means we can go for longer rides on the local bike paths, and she doesn’t get knackered on the little hills. Plus, the internal hub means less maintenance for me. A top-notch, well-thought-out bit of kit.

From a Reluctant Rider to a Confident Cyclist.
Our 9-year-old has dyspraxia, and the coordination needed for pedalling, balancing, and steering all at once was overwhelming. The Rookie 24 allowed him to deconstruct the learning process. He spent a month just mastering balance and braking, which was a huge achievement. When we added the pedals, he only had one new thing to focus on. It clicked almost instantly. It’s a fantastic, inclusive design that empowers kids who learn differently. We’re so chuffed and grateful.

The Perfect Bridge from Nothing to a Proper Bike.
This is the missing link for older kids who missed the balance bike boat when they were toddlers. It provides a safe, stable, and size-appropriate way to learn the most crucial skill—balance—before introducing pedals. It’s built tough, with proper V-brakes and quality components, so you feel confident in its safety. A brilliant, one-off purchase that solves a very common problem.

Makes the School Run an Absolute Breeze!
The trip to school used to be a bit of a drag. Now, our son zips along on his Rookie 24. It’s light enough for him to handle easily, and the auto-gears mean he can get up the slight rise near the school gates without getting off to push. It’s turned a boring walk into a fun daily adventure. Too easy!
Tom F. –
An Investment in Years of Family Adventures.
We were hesitant about the price at first, but when you realise you’re getting a premium balance bike AND a 2-speed pedal bike in one, it makes perfect sense. This isn’t a bike they’ll use for six months; it’s a bike that will take them from a complete beginner to a competent rider who can join in on proper family bike rides. The quality is so good it will last for years. It’s not just buying a bike; it’s buying years of fun.
Sarah B. –
No More “My Legs Are Tired!” Whinging.
The 2-speed hub is the best thing ever for extending a ride. We live near a coastal path that has a few gentle ups and downs. On his old single-speed bike, our son would grind to a halt on the inclines. With the Rookie 24, the gears automatically make it easier for him, so he just keeps on pedalling with a smile on his face. He feels so proud that he can “conquer the hills” all by himself.

Quality and Safety That Gives Us Peace of Mind.
As grandparents, safety is our number one priority. The Kidvelo Rookie 24 is rock solid. The frame is light but sturdy, the hand brakes are responsive and easy for small hands to pull, and the whole design feels incredibly stable. Knowing it’s a well-made bike that supports a safe learning process allows us to relax and just enjoy watching him have the time of his life.
